During my recent visit to Michigan, I had the joy of gazing out at the beautiful orange and gold leaves of Autumn. Living on the Gulf Coast there is no such sudden display of color…our autumn is a subtle shift .. a slight coolness, an earthy scent in the air… a state of mind embraced by us locals with all the gusto and joy that a hike in the fall woods brings to those in the North. In the tearoom, we start to experience the change through our customers …by their heightened chatter and hot tea choices and suddenly soup is the thing! Sitting outside is the preference and no one seems in a hurry to leave. Some sit and sip for hours… And why not? We have plenty of autumn tastes and aromas to sip on, such as Spiced Plum, Sweet Maple, Cranberry Apple, pumpkin and much more! Michigan Maple roasted coffee often permeates the air and raisins scones or pumpkin breads are consumed with gusto. Consumerism would have us package fall as the gateway to holiday shopping, and yet we choose to dig in our heels, throw on the sweaters, hike up the boots and pause to embrace the moment of autumn glory.
